Local, impactful reporting
About Me
As a journalist, I ask questions and speak with people from all walks of life to document how moments and larger forces shape the way we live. I’m passionate about local, impactful reporting that spans from politics and crime to lifestyle and human interest stories.
At Syracuse.com, the award-winning local news-source for Central New York, I covered a range of topics on general assignment. I’ve reported on immigration, city projects, government accountability, state legislation, and municipal budgets.
For award-winning student publications, I’ve also covered the historically unprecedented program pauses at Syracuse University, events related to student organization around the assassination of Charlie Kirk, and city events related to food accessibility issues in the greater Onondaga County region.
I was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and have had the privilege of studying abroad multiple times. Through my travels in places like the fast-paced, highly congested neighborhoods of Bangkok, where luxury malls operate just steps away from street vendors and local markets, I’ve been able to experience the sharp economic contrasts that exist within the same spaces. Spending time in Naples, Italy, coming across student protests in the city center was also an eye-opening experience, especially as I noticed its socially charged environment. These are moments that, in one way or another, have shaped the way I approach people’s stories because they’ve helped me see a range of realities.
As a trilingual journalist fluent in English, Spanish, and Italian, I look forward to not only reaching diverse audiences, but also having more access to sources I can engage with in order to learn from and share a story. At Syracuse.com, I’ve already been able to engage with my language skills in this way, especially through immigration coverage.
From covering the undocumented community in Syracuse to local animal rights advocates and state legislature projects, I’ve learned about the value of being flexible, as well as of covering the news in a full-picture, contextual way.
